World renowned author Patrick McKeown is a researcher and coach at the cutting edge of optimal breathing strategies. His book The Oxygen Advantage explores the science of breathing and how mastering one of the most powerful mechanism in our body can have a tremendous impact on both well being and performance.
Over the last 15 years Patrick has worked with thousands of people across the world, from elite athletes to weekend warriors, using simple breathing exercises to help them to correct poor breathing patterns which can result in life-changing health and fitness benefits.
Patrick McKeown completed his clinical training in the Buteyko Breathing Method at the Buteyko Clinic in Moscow in 2002 and was accredited by the late Professor Konstantin Buteyko. He has since authored eight books on the subject of breathing, including Close Your Mouth, Anxiety Free: Stop Worrying and Quieten Your Mind, Asthma Free Naturally, Always Breathe Correctly and Sleep with Buteyko. His latest book The Oxygen Advantage is an extension of his work, combining simulation of high-altitude training and specifically-formulated exercises which empower athletes to improve their sports performance safely, legally and at no cost. For the first time, athletes are afforded a reliable and accurate means to measure their progress using the Body Oxygen Level Test (BOLT), enabling them to address poor breathing habits; understand in simple terms how oxygen is released to working muscles; and to practice breath hold exercises that naturally increase aerobic and anaerobic capacity.
A TEDxspeaker, Patrick’s work has been published by leading publishing houses including Harper Collins (UK), William Morrow Press (USA), Red Wheel Weiser (USA), Sperling & Kupfer (Italy), Kanki Publishing Inc. (Japan). Journal publications include the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The Journal of the American Orthodontic Society and Clinical Otolaryngology.
